The UK's RNLI have just released details of their 2010 rescues.

More than 1,700 sailing boats were rescued by the RNLI around the UK and Ireland in 2011.
In total 8,713 lifeboats were launched last year, with more than half to pleasure boats. Of those 2,173 were to powerboats, 1,711 to sailing boats and 750 to manual craft, such as kayaks, surfers and tenders without outboards.

But nearly three quarters of people rescued were from pleasure boats with 1,971 rescued from sailing boats.

Talon "as seen on TV"

We can now claim as seen on TV for our very own Talon, as it makes a brief appearance on the BBC television X-Ray consumer show as part of a short feature on Welsh inventions and the patent process.

Despite the European travel chaos and a 1500 mile road trip, we not only managed to get our Talon Rescue & Mooring Device to the 38th Annual Exhibition of Inventions in Geneva, Switzerland event but we brought it back with a prestigious Gold award. An international panel of 85 judges awarded the Talon with a Gold medal award in the Sécurité (safety) category.

Talon recovers sonar buoy from the deep

A Talon has been on trial with a commercial diving company. In January 2010 a sonar buoy was recovered from 36 metres of water using the Talon. A diver descended with the Talon attached to a retrieval line and was on the bottom for just seconds in low visibility conditions to make a very fast and successful recovery.
